La diva du Wassoulou, Oumou Sangaré, a été la grande gagnante de l’édition 2018 des « Songlines Music Awards » qui se sont tenues à l’Electric Brixton à Londres, au Royaume Uni, le 20 octobre 2018. Ces Awards, qui en sont à leur onzième édition, récompensent les musiques du monde.
Lors de cette prestigieuse soirée, Oumou Sangaré a remporté les catégories suivantes : « Best Artist » et « Africa and Middle East ». Elle est arrivée première devant des artistes comme Boubacar Traoré Kar Kar, Vieux Farka Touré, Tamikrest (Mali) ; Msafiri (Tanzanie) et Maya Youssef (Syrie). Des distinctions qui récompensent notamment « Mogoya », le nouvel album de la star.
Le groupe maliano-américain Trio Da Kali & Kronos Quartet est arrivé en tête dans la catégorie Fusion.
La catégorie Best Group, où le groupe zimbabwéen Mokoomba était le seul représentant africain, a récompensé l’Italien Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino.
La chanteuse béninoise Angélique Kidjo a reçu le « World Pioneer Award » et Maya Youssef le « Newcomer Award ».
