En battant hier après-midi (23 novembre 2018) les Fennecs d’Algérie par 3 buts à 2, les Aigles dames du Mali ont écrit leur propre histoire en phase finale de CAN féminine.
En effet, pour la première fois dans l’histoire de cette compétition, le Mali s’est qualifié pour les demi-finales. Et cela suite à cette victoire à l’arrachée. Une performance qui en dit long sur le mental de Fatoumata Doumbia et de ses coéquipières. Menées deux fois au score, les maliennes ont réussi à remettre les pendules à l’heure avant de s’imposer au finish.
Avec 6 points, le Mali termine à la seconde place du Groupe A derrière le Cameroun (7 points) et devant le Ghana (4 points). Le pays organisateur qui connaît une nouvelle désillusion dans cette compétition qu’elle espérait remporter cette année au moins à domicile.
Après six échecs (2002, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2010 et 2016), la 7e tentative a été la bonne pour notre sélection nationale féminine senior de football. Après le faux pas inaugural face au Cameroun, Les Aigles ont su bien se 
reprendre en battant le pays organisateur (Ghana) 2-1 et aujourd’hui l’Algérie par 3-2.
«On va gratter cette victoire, cette qualification», avait promis l’attaquante Sébé Coulibaly à leurs supporters avant la rencontre. Une promesse tenue dans la douleur, mais avec vaillance !
